Recommend a Hotel near Macy’s?

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Question: Hi, just wondering if you could recommend a hotel near Macy’s? We’re looking for something cheap and cheerful if possible! Thanks.

Answer: There are lots of hotels near Macy’s Herald Square that fit the bill. One of the most popular hotels with Irish people is the 2 star Hotel Pennsylvania which is located on 33rd Street and 7th Avenue right opposite Penn Station. Although the rooms are basic, the location is very convenient not only for shopping in Macy’s, Chelsea boutiques and Garment District but it is close to Empire State Building, Grand Central, Madison Square Garden and a 10 min stroll to Times Square Theatre district.

A double room in the Pennsylvania Hotel in February 2010 comes in at €69.00 or €34.50 per person including taxes. They also have triple and quad rooms available making it even cheaper per person.

Here are some other hotels that meet the cheap and cheerful criteria:  Comfort Inn Hilton Garden Inn Hampton Inn The New Yorker

New York Knicks Tickets

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Question: We are a group of four (two couples) heading to New York for five days in mid November and are interested in catching a basketball game in New York. How do we go about getting tickets? Where would you recommend we stay?

Answer: The 2009-2010 NBA Basketball Season has already kicked off its pre-season friendly games with the first official match throw-ins on Tuesday October 27th which is in fact today! The New York Knicks play their home games at Madison Square Garden at 32nd St & 7th Ave right by Penn Station and around the block from Macy’s Department Store.  Tickets for each New York Knicks game can be purchased directly through VisitNewYork.ie. Be sure to check and see if you can pick up some limited e-tickets that are made available. Although tickets are sent by FedEx, we recommend you book your tickets a couple of weeks in advance just to be sure they arrive in the post on time.

As for hotel accommodation we recommend you look at hotels in midtown Manhattan as you will be well connected by Manhattan’s efficient public transport system. There are a number of hotels close to Madison Square Garden. The 2 star Pennsylvania Hotel, the 4 star Affinia Manhattan Hotel Suites as well as the 3 star Holiday Inn Express MSG (Madison Sqaure Garden) are proving popular with people looking to catch a game and do some shopping at Macy’s.

Go Knicks!

Cheap Hotels in New York

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Question: We are are a family of four planning a trip to New York for our summer holidays. Are we better holding off? How do we go about finding the best New York hotel deals?

Answer: Now has never been a better time to make a trip to New York. There is value to be found at every step of your holiday in New York. Let me explain. Prices of flights to New York are at their lowest ever! Aer Lingus and Continental are giving away flights to NYC for less than €129 each way including taxes. Not only is it down to the lower cost of fuel, but it is also because there are now more airlines competing for the New York bound market in Ireland. This competiton is driving down prices further, giving you the best value.

Visitors to NYC are also saving money 0n hotel rates too. VisitNewYork.ie has negotiated free night deals in dozens of hotels in Manhattan. Stay four nights and get one night free! See our list of special offers and late deals on www.visitnewyork.ie/special-offers

The U.S. is in recession and therefore New York retailers are being creative and are pretty much having a year-round sale. There are plenty of bargains to be snapped up in the fashion capital of the world which is great news for the Irish shopping in New York! Same applies to New York restauranteurs who are getting more creative by the week with all kinds of lunch, dinner and pre-theatre special offers. Some of the most exclusive restaurants in Manhattan are offering 4 course meals with a bottle of wine for as little as $40 USD per head which is great value.

VisitNewYork.ie is currently offering customers a free tour of the Empire State Building with every hotel booking. Tied in with this offer is a free savings pack for Woodbury Common Outlet Store and Bloomingdales Department Store!

So, if you are looking for some bang for your buck especially with the dollar so weak at present, now is the time to visit New York!

Day Trip to Niagara Falls

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Question: We are planning our New York Holiday and would like you to recommend a nice hotel in central NY. We would also like to do a trip to Niagara Falls if possible from the USA side. Help!  Margaret

The most central spot to stay in Manhattan, New York, is Midtown. This five square mile area stretches from 59th Street just below Central Park South down to 14th Street. Some of the world’s most famous buildings and landmarks are located in Midtown Manhattan i.e. Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Times Square, Rockefeller Centre, Fifth Ave and many more. Naturally most of the major hotel chains are found in this area and so are tourists who want to be close to all the attractions.

It is difficult to recommend a nice hotel without knowing your budget, star of hotel and group type (couple, family with kids, friends). May I suggest you check out the links to the following hotels:

As for your trip to Niagara Falls, you have two options.

Option one is to take a day trip from New York by Air. This tour is run by Viator.com and can be viewed at http://www.viator.com/tours/New-York-City/Niagara-Falls-Day-Trip-from-New-York-by-Air/d687-2625NIAGARA

Second option is to take a 2 day bus trip and overnight in Canada. Details of this tour are available here http://www.partner.viator.com/en/4295/tours/New-York-City/2-Day-Tour-to-Niagara-Falls-from-New-York/d687-2896NYCNIA

We hope this information helps. Remember, we are offering a FREE Tour of Empire State Building with every hotel booking made in March 2009.

In the meantime, if you would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact us on 01 685 4312.

Where is the New Yankee Stadium located?

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

The New York Yankees have long been associated with the city and are the pride and joy amongst many a New Yorker.  In fact the form of the Yankees often has a major affect to the overall “mood” of the city.

2009 marks a historic year for the Yankees and for the city itself.  The Yankees will be making the move from their beloved and legendary Yankee Stadium to their new home, the conveniently named new Yankee Stadium which will open its doors publicly on April 3rd 2009.

This is another major coup for the New York City Borough of the Bronx. Although the area may not have had the best of reputations particularly in the South of the Bronx, it has seen an influx of investment and growth over the past 10 years since the announcement of this major construction and the long overdue return to successful form of the Yankees, which  have seen attendances rocket since the 90’s.  The new ball park will be situated across the street, west and north of the original Yankee Stadium.

The New Yankee Stadium is attracting huge interest, not only in New York itself, but right across the States and around the globe.  When the most famous and well known Baseball team on the planet moves home you just know the whole event will be spectacular!…

To celebrate the Opening of the stadium VisitNewYork.ie are offering a special promotion on all New York Hotels booked for the week of the grand opening.

To take advantage of this fantastic offer enter the following promotion code when prompted on the Hotel Booking page:   vNY21nys

Go Yankees!
