Suggestions for pub crawls in Manhattan

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Question: Where can I find advice on suggested pub crawls in Manhattan please?

Answer: The first thing that springs to mind when asked this question is…wow there are a lot of bars in Manhattan, how do you choose? No matter where you are in Manhattan, you are only a block away from a selection of bars. The best thing to do is decide which neighbourhood you would like to conquer. There are lots of bars dotted around Times Square and Theatre District but if you want to get away from the touristy bars and get a taste of the real Manhattan life you should to head to the Lower East Side or East Village.

Our suggestion is to take the 6 subway downtown to Astor Place and start your pub crawl off in Manhattan’s and America’s oldest pub which of course is an Irish bar by the name of McSorley’s located at 15 East 7th Street between 2nd & 3rd Avenue. McSorley’s is a great starting point as it is close to both East Village/Alphabet City and the Lounges of Lower East Side. Note all drinks in McSorley’s must be ordered two or three at a time or face the wrath of the barman.

After McSorley’s, it is really up to you. There are so many types of bars to choose from. To help you choose bars for your pub crawl list we suggest you take a look at bars in our New York Nightlife Guide as well as some cool sites such as NewYorkOnTap.com and MurphGuide.com. Check out the pub crawl we have for Alphabet City…

U2 World Tour in New York

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Question: Hi, are U2 playing in New York this year as part of their world tour. Where are they playing and are there tickets still available?

Answer: U2 are scheduled to play two concerts in New York this year as part of their World Tour. Giants Stadium, home of the New York Giants which is located in East Rutherford New Jersey, is the venue for both gigs which take place on Thursday the 24th & Friday the 25th of September 2009.

Obviously with any U2 concert, tickets will always be in high demand. We at VisitNewYork.ie are delighted to reveal we still have availability for tickets to both nights of their New York shows. Tickets can be purchased here for as little as $70 USD

U2 in Croke Park sold out in minutes and tickets are proving incredibly hard to get hold of. We really think this is a great idea for any U2 fan that does not want to miss out on seeing them perform live this year. Yes the U2 Dublin gigs are always special, but U2 have always had a long standing relationship with New York and as a result there gigs here are always spectacular!

Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions about this or anything else for that matter.

What are the best New York Night Spots in February?

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Well seeing as we have already touched on Valentine’s Day in New York, we will try and stay away from bars and clubs that are just catered for couples, after all let’s not forget Valentine’s day is just 1 day out of 28 (yes we know 29 if it’s a leap year!)

Each month we will bring you a top 10 list of the best and most popular night spots in New York City.  Plan and customize your stay in New York with the VisitNewYork.ie Nightlife Guide where you can Search, Select, Print and Share with friends your very own NYC Nightlife Guide.

  • Baraza Cocktail Bar on the East Village is a very lively and bubbly Latin themed bar. Very popular with the New York locals and well worth a visit. Here you will be in mojito heaven!
  • Apotheke Cocktail Bar down in Chinatown boast to have over 250 house cocktails ready to be shaken to order! Pricey but if you’re in the neighbourhood it would be rude not to pop in to sample a few!
  • The famous and ever so popular Bemelmans Bar! You just have to pay a visit to this classy and elegant New York Piano Bar! Situated in the Carlyle Hotel on the Upper East Side of Manhattan
  • The Blue Water Grill in Tribeca is a great little find! Don’t let the name fool you, yes there is a grill upstairs but downstairs you will find a fantastic Jazz Club!
  • Bookmarks Rooftop Bar in Midtown East. The VisitNewYork.ie team are big fans of Rooftop bars and believe that this popular after work bar is perfect for early evening drinks looking out over the city! Situated on top of the Library Hotel
  • Employees Only Pricey yet classy New York Cocktail Bar. You could just imagine Carrie and the girls sipping on cocktails here after a long day of shopping!
  • Kelly’s Sports bar in the East Village as the name suggests is a good old fashioned New York sports bar. This place is great (if your into sports!) as its loud and in your face and then when the match finishes on comes the DJ
  • Lansdowne Road in Midtown. If what you miss from back home is sport then this is the place for you!. Shows all the GAA, Premiership, Champions League, Six-Nations, Heineken Cup and more!
  • Pegu Club in SoHo is one of our favourites! Really cool and funky Jazz Club famous for its cocktails.
  • Uva Wine Bar on the Upper East Side is a great place to go for a casual night out with friends. It’s the kinda place you go to expecting only stay for the one but end up staying for the night!
  • If you’re in New York in the coming weeks be sure to check out some of the above featured bars.

    Enjoy! - The VisitNewYork.ie Team
