New York dinner reservations in advance.

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Question: Hi, my boyfriend and I are arriving in NYC on the evening of the 26th Nov. We are staying not too far from Times Square. Do you recommend that we have dinner booked for that night- it being Thanksgiving and can you recommend any restaurants that would be open that night. Thanks

Answer: Just like any other city, reserving a table in advance for dinner in Manhattan is always a good idea especially for special occassions such as Thanksgiving. A lot of New York restaurants have signed up to using guest management software and websites that facilitate restaurant reservations online. OpenTable.com is proving to be very popular with hundreds of restaurateurs in Manhattan. However, it should be noted that they do not have all restaurants and maybe you will need to reserve direct.

As for recommendations, we have a whole list of restaurants we recommend on the New York restaurants section of VisitNewYork.ie. Since it is a special occassion such as Thanksgiving, I would recommend a restaurant with a view and the first that springs to mind is The River Cafe which offers superb food and refined service with breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline and N.Y. Harbor. An alternative option would be the stunning Times Square views from New York’s only revolving rooftop restaurant called The View on 45th St & Broadway.  If your partner enjoys a steak I would recommend New York’s original and best steakhouse in Midtown (36th St 7 Broadway) called Keen’s Steakhouse.

Bon appetit!

Where can I go for a big Breakfast while in New York

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Breakfast in New York City is a BIG thing! Big in size, big in variety and big in choice of where to eat with a whole host of diners throughout the city.  Choosing the right breakfast diner for you obviously depends entirely where you are staying, unless of course you are prepared to travel for your breakie!

  • Good Stuff Diner in Greenwich is a really popular diner with the local New Yorkers. Fry-up, pancakes, eggs, omelettes, coffee whatever you fancy you can get it here
  • Norma’s in the heart of Midtown should be right up there on your list of breakfast diners! They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day well the size of the portions here will make sure it’s the only meal you will have for the day!
  • Viand Cafe on the corner of 75th St & Broadway, Upper West Side Manhattan beside the Hotel Beacon comes personally recommended by the VisitNewYork.ie team. This is the quintessential New York breakfast spot. Full of local New York characters. Quick and attentive service. The real deal.
  • Manhattan Diner on the Upper West Side is a nice relaxing place to go for breakfast with friends. Does not get to packed out like other diners in the city so getting a table should be hassle free!
  • Cup & Saucer down in Chinatown, come here for the omelettes!
  • Don’t forget for a full list of Breakfast Diners in New York check out the VisitNewYork.ie Restaurant Guide.
