What to do on Valentine’s Day in New York City?

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

We are fast approaching that day again… that’s right… that one day in the year where by law you must drop everything, rush out and shower your loved one with gift after gift followed by that over priced meal in the only available restaurant in town, where they need the table back by 8 ready for the next couple to be shoved through the door…. Valentine’s Day!

This year go against the mould and try something different - How about a spontaneous planned trip to the most romantic city in the world - New York! And with Valentine’s day this year falling on a Saturday it’s the perfect excuse to go for a long romantic weekend - check out the great deals we have on all New York Hotels.

Plan your romantic meal for two using the VisitNewYork.ie Restaurant Guide to help you book ahead.

To help you on your way and to prove that the VisitNewYork.ie team have a few romantics left in them yet, we have come up with some fantastic ideas to help wow your loved one while in New York….

Start the day off in style with a huge breakfast in the heart of Midtown.  The portions at the ever popular French Breakfast diner Norma’s will set you up nicely on your way for the romantic day that lays ahead…

How about champagne at the top of the Empire State Building ObservatoryThe 86th Floor Observatory with its magical and spectacular views is one of the most romantic spots in all of NYC, remember that’s where Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan met in Sleepless In Seattle!

A bit of shopping in NYC always go down well, especially with the lady. While you’re at it, you can always pop in to Tiffany’s on 5th Avenue for that ring you promised!

Central Park in New York is another romantic hotspot, especially on Valentine’s day here you can either take a nice leisurely stroll through the park or do it in style with a nice romantic Horse Carriage ride.

Treat your other half to some afternoon cocktails on a Rooftop bar overlooking the city.  VisitNewYork.ie suggests A60 Rooftop Bar in SoHo as a perfect venue for you and your loved one to sip on a couple of cocktails while looking out onto the Midtown and lower Manhattan skylines.

No Valentines would be complete without a nice romantic dinner for two - Aroma Kitchen in the East Village is an award winning Italian with a fantastic wine menu and is perfect for couples.

Finish the night off in style at a classic New York Jazz bar like the Village Vanguard in the West Village.

Happy Valentines!
